Himagiri (Hima) Sarma, J.D., ALMFT

THERAPIST

Hima (pronouns: she/her) is a Marriage and Family Therapist. Trained in Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University, Hima incorporates a variety of systemic, modern, and post-modern models of relational theories to help clients promote positive change within personal relationships and larger social systems. She works from a strengths-based and client-centered framework, and believes in the inherent capacity of every individual to navigate their life journey with resilience and empowerment.

Hima’s style of therapy can be characterized as friendly, directive, and empowering. With a mix of candor, kindness and empathy she works collaboratively with her clients to identify the problem, create solutions and help them get implemented. She is passionate about working with both couples and individuals on their relationships as she believes that good relationships are a fundamental building block of life. As a South Asian therapist, Hima is also passionate about normalizing therapy for those in her community and believes in the power of open communication and shared experiences. She believes that her clients are the experts in their own life, and hopes that to collaborate with them on finding a joint path forward.

Prior to obtaining her Master’s degree at Adler, Hima worked as a nonprofit attorney in the field of gender based violence, as both a legal aid attorney and a legal advocacy program director at a DV organization. Her work with trauma survivors spoke to her belief that all people are empowered with the ability to make changes in their life, utilizing their own strength and the support they derive from others. She believes that everyone deserves and has the power to develop healthy relationships in all scopes of their life: intimate, platonic, and familial, regardless of their past relationship history.

Hima received her Master of Arts in Couple and Family Therapy from Adler University, her Juris Doctorate from University of California Law School – San Francisco, and her Bachelor of Arts from Washington University.

She is supervised by Nosheen Hydari, LMFT.
