Emily Kabeshita, ALMFT

THERAPIST

Emily (pronouns: she/her) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. She believes that empathy, curiosity, and authenticity are the catalysts for connection and empowerment, and seeks to lead with these values in her therapeutic work. Emily believes that therapy can be a place for anyone—individuals, couples, and families—to reflect on, strengthen, and create healthy relationships not just with others, but with themselves as well.

Trained in Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST), Emily draws from various therapeutic models to tailor therapy to each client in recognition that there is no “one size fits all” solution for everyone. She frequently utilizes methods from Emotion-Focused, Acceptance and Commitment, and Internal Family Systems therapies, and also recognizes the power of connecting to one’s body and physical experience as a basis for healing. She takes the systemic view that people and the challenges they face do not exist in isolation, and thus seeks to understand each client’s unique context with humility and care in order to co-create solutions and meaningful change in their lives.

Emily has had the privilege of working with families, couples, individuals, and children of diverse identities and backgrounds experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, communication and social challenges, and life-stage transitions (e.g. parenting, divorce, mid-life challenges). She takes a particular interest in topics related to self-differentiation and identity, multicultural and multi-generational relationships, men’s and women’s issues, and parent-child relationships through the lifespan. Moreover, no matter what concerns may be brought to therapy, she honors the opportunity to bear witness to these lived experiences and to allow clients to feel seen and heard.

Emily received her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Family Institute at Northwestern University. Prior to her career as a therapist, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Michigan and worked as a project manager in the tech industry—experiences that have lent her diverse perspectives that she carries into her therapeutic work.

She is supervised by Nosheen Hydari, LMFT.
