FAQs

How long will I/we be in therapy?

Most clients meet with their therapist for a 45-50 minute session once per week. This can change based on the needs of the client. The length of an episode of therapy varies based on the client's goals. For some, it could be less than 10 sessions; for others looking for a longer therapeutic relationship to help them achieve more profound change, it may go on much longer. Session length, frequency and duration are all important parts of therapy that will be discussed as a part of treatment with your therapist.

Is therapy confidential?

Everything discussed between you and your therapist is confidential. This is a very important part of the therapeutic process. There are several limits to confidentiality. If you present as a risk to yourself, others, or disclose of child/elder abuse, your therapist may be obligated by law to make a report to the appropriate emergency services to help protect you and others from harm. Your therapist may also disclose information to an individual or party that you have consented for release of information (i.e. psychiatrist, other therapist, parent, teacher, etc). If you present in couples therapy with a secret, your therapist will likely be unable to hold the secret with one partner from the other. Your therapist can, however, work with you to discuss information you want to share with your partner and help you do so through the therapeutic process.

Will my therapist be supervised?

NFT is committed to the growth and development of the field of mental health, and as such, some of our staff is made up of associate (provisionally-licensed) therapists working under our fully-licensed clinical supervisors. If this is the case with your therapist, they will discuss your case and treatment with their supervisor as needed. This offers you additional support in your work with your therapist. You are welcome to discuss this more in therapy.

Can you explain payment & fees?

Our fees range from $125-$200 per session. Our practice is in-network with BCBS PPO, Aetna PPO, United Healthcare PPO, and Cigna PPO. If you have an insurance plan we are not paneled with, we can offer invoices for our services so you can get reimbursed directly from your insurance company. You can also elect to pay out-of-pocket. Please visit our Services & Fees section to learn more.

If you have an insurance plan we are paneled with, please note that all claims are still subject to insurance review, eligibility requirements, and medical necessity. Unpaid claims are the client’s responsibility. Even though you may have a plan we are paneled with, some plans are contracting with third-party providers for their mental health coverage and therefore are considered out-of-network. The best way to know if we are in network with your plan is to call your insurance company’s member service number on the back of your card.

I don't know what my insurance plan covers—what questions should I ask when I call them?

Most people do not know what their behavioral health and/or medical benefits are. Insurance is a confusing, complicated system that can be difficult to navigate. Here are some helpful questions to ask by calling the member's support number on the back of your insurance card:

  • Do I have outpatient behavioral health coverage?

  • What is my co-pay and/or co-insurance amount(s)?

  • Is there a per year session limit?

  • What is my annual deductible amount and how much is remaining?

  • When does my deductible reset?

  • Is pre-authorization needed prior to beginning services?
